WELCOME

Welcome to the art of floral designing. There are many opportunities in the floral industry. An exciting career as a floral designer, shop owner or as a free lance designer and our school introduces and prepares you in this field.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Anyone possessing normal manual dexterity and an eye for beauty and design may be trained. There are no specific academic requirements.

Graduating from the school provides the opportunity for employment in a flower shop or ownership of your own business. There is a growing demand for people qualified to work in many facets of the floral industry. The rewards for learning floral design are immeasurable to the individual having the desire to create for sheer self-enjoyment.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Director and Instructor Jim Cahill has been the Director of New England School of Floral Design for over fifteen years. A skilled floral designer and instructor, he is admired for his talent and creativity. With a background of over twenty years in the floral industry, Jim has lectured and demonstrated on many occasions to different groups, managed florist shops, designed television set decorations, consulted many flower shop owners and has designed for many functions at major hotels.

Jim enjoys sharing his vast experience and talents with his students so they may also have the opportunities to express their talent in this rewarding field.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Our courses will give you the hands on workshop experience needed to work in a florist shop. Designing floral arrangements of all styles, traditional, contemporary and novelty, studying basic principles of design, balance, proportion, depth, dimension, focal point, rhythm, etc.

We will also teach you proper wiring and taping methods for designing corsages, hairpieces, boutonnieres, etc.

You will also learn how to consult with the bride, studying tradition, as well as new style in today’s weddings. You will learn to design a complete wedding.

You will also learn techniques to design proper sympathy tributes. In addition you will study the functions of the wire services, F.T.D., Teleforal, etc. Flower identification, flower conditioning methods, pricing, profit markups and designing certain priced arrangement controlling amount of product used. A skilled designer is essential in today’s flower shop to control profit.

Class sizes are limited to assure personal attention to every student (average ten students per class).

A trip to a wholesale house is also part of the curriculum, learning how the product is purchased.

DAY COURSE

Our day program is a professional basic floral training course studying design and shop management. Students are furnished all flowers, supplies and accessories as well as the use of our tools. This is a six week course held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The complete course is a total of 108 hours. A Registration Fee is required with the registration enrollment application, which is credited towards the total tuition cost. Registration and total tuition fee on enclosed application.

EVENING COURSE

Our evening course is also a basic floral training course concentrating in design and profit. Students are furnished all flowers, supplies and accessories as well as the use of our tools. It is held two evenings per week from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Complete course is a total of 52 hours. A Registration Fee is required with the registration enrollment application, which is credited towards the total intuition cost. Registration and total tuition fee on enclosed application.
