The School of Flower Design

The Milwaukee School of Flower Design located at 1718 North 1st Street presents an eight week intensive course into the design world of flowers.

Each class presents a different design situation that the professional florist or floral designer might encounter with a client, or in his or her home, office or place of business.

Our classes are held twice a week, each lasting 3 hours a session. All classes are a hands-on experience with all tools, containers and fresh flowers provided for the complete design experience. In each class large quantities of fresh flowers are shipped in for the use of the student to design and cut. Each student goes through $1500-$2000 worth of flowers per semester including orchids, tropical, English garden, and Holland varieties of flower species. Each student takes his or her designs home as well as more product to produce more samples to be reviewed during the next class.

A trip to the flower market is also scheduled to give the students an understanding of how the wholesale flower market operates. Students learn what it takes to buy wholesale and where the flowers originate from. Flowers used in each class are shipped in from such locales as Holland (tulips), Columbia (roses), Hawaii (tropical), Israel (Gerber Daisies). We teach the flower lover how to design elegant or contemporary arrangements for entertaining at home or for commercial accounts. Amazing results come from understanding the principles and theories of design as well as the application of those to different flower varieties.

Flower Design Classes Everyday application is seen throughout each class as well as special events such as weddings or parties. Personal flowers to wear such as corsages, boutonnieres and head wreaths are covered. Fast and beautiful table top and centerpiece designs are one of the most popular segments. Professional shortcuts, tips and secrets to designing for the home and office are displayed, as well as procedure for more complicated designing such as bridal and high-style designing. International design styles are discussed and presented as well.

Students can approach the semester with the goals of pursuing a career in the flower business or to acquire the resources and skills for designing their own personal reasons of events. Classes are extremely informative and filled with hands-on experience. Students move at a steady pace from one design to the next.

It's fun, focus, and flowers all in one class. You will meet fellow students, develop a life-long skill, and educate yourself on the world of flower design and production while filling your life with beautiful creations of your own design.
