Benefits of MFGA Membership
Being a member of the Massachusetts Flower Growers' Association means you have an organization of dedicated people representing the interests and concerns of commercial flower and plant growers and associated businesses in the areas of state legislation, promotion and education. Each year the efforts of the MFGA make sure that the important economic contributions of the members of the MFGA are known and promoted to the general public as well as elected officials and the media.
The MFGA also prints a complete membership directory every two years with each member listed with complete address, phone number, email address, website, contact person and a short description of the operation. This helpful directory is posted on the MFGA web site as is the easy-to-use wholesale crop directory and grower-to-grower directory to help buyers locate Massachusetts' grown plant materials and flowers.
The MFGA web site provides information to consumers with an onsite search of MFGA members' retail local independent retail garden centers and farm stands. It also offers helpful links to our sponsors including the University of Massachusetts Extension Service, the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. The Massachusetts Flower Growers' Association was established in 1947 to promote the advancement of the Massachusetts Flower Industry. The Association is a non-profit organization of flower growers and associated tradesmen from the Commonwealth. It represents the Bay States' commercial industry with leadership in the areas of legislation, promotion and education.
Massachusetts has one of the largest greenhouse flower producing industries in the nation. It currently ranks within the top 20 states in the wholesale production of ornamental plants. These include potted and hanging plants, bedding plants, perennials and cut flowers. In Massachusetts Floriculture is the largest agricultural industry with over 800 flower producing businesses utilizing over 8.5 million square feet of production area under greenhouse cover. The Greenhouse and Nursery Industry of Massachusetts accounts for over 35% or $132 million dollars of the States' Agricultural farm cash receipts.
