Highly valued for its ease of growth and long bloom time. It should have a place in every garden because it goes with everything. Try combining it with yellow such as Coreopsis 'Moonbeam', Black-Eyed Susan, Daylilies and Shasta Daisies.

Soil Preference: This perennial is tolerant of a range of well-drained soil types from average to dry. Amending soils, especially very heavy and light types, with generous amounts of organic matter will result in improved performance

Description: This veronica is a wonderful, easy to grow perennial that adds great color in the garden all season long. Its sun-proof, brilliant gold leaves form a wide, low, spreading mound. In early summer, short spikes of sky blue flowers appear just above the foliage. A wonderful groundcover for small, sunny spaces.

Description: Planted en masse, this selection appears as a sea of intense gentian blue that will catch your eye from quite a distance. The flowers occur in narrow spikes above the mounded foliage. It tends to bloom about a month earlier than the other varieties. A nice filler plant for border or cottage gardens.

Description: The extra tall, dense flower spikes of this species of veronica make it ideal for use in cut flower arrangements. They are a dramatic deep purplish-red and appear for an exceptionally long time beginning in midsummer. In the cool weather of fall, the foliage takes on deep purplish-red hues.

Veronica umbrosa 'Georgia Blue'

Description: Originating from the Republic of Georgia in the former Soviet Union comes this hardy ground cover-type veronica with a rock hard constitution. Very clean looking glossy foliage emerges in spring with some purple tints, matures to dark green, and then takes on bronze tones in the fall. The plants put on a spectacular display in early to late spring (depending on the zone) of cobalt blue flowers which completely cover the foliage once the plants are established. They often rebloom sporadically throughout the summer. This plant works well as a weed suppressing ground cover, but is also outstanding in containers or planted along stone walls where it will gently cascade over the edge.

Description: A dwarf veronica perfect for the front of the border or in containers. This variety looks much like its larger cousins, but is shorter. Description: Masses of violet-blue spikes dart up above the compact, upright, deep green foliage of 'Royal Candles' all summer long. Butterflies love to drink their sweet nectar. Unlike some other veronicas, the bottom foliage of this variety does not die out. This trait coupled with its shorter habit makes it ideal for the front of the border, as an edging, or in containers. Many people consider this cultivar to be the best upright form of veronica.

Veronica 'Sunny Border Blue'

Description: Vivid violet-blue spikes dart up above the dark green, crinkly foliage of 'Sunny Border Blue' from midsummer into fall. This variety was introduced in 1946 by Robert Bennerup, founder of Sunny Border Nurseries, and is still one of the most popular today. The Perennial Plant Association thought so highly of this plant in 1993 that they selected it for the Plant of the Year Award
